About
WalkRun Westshore was created to help runners and walkers quickly and easily find a safe and interesting place to enjoy the outdoors in Langford and Colwood. As a Langford resident and runner myself, I was always spending too much time online (when I’d rather be running) searching different websites to find new routes that didn’t take me into areas with high car traffic with no sidewalks.
When I was training for my first half-marathon, I found that it was important to know exact distances of your running routes, but I didn’t have the money to splurge on a high-tech GPS watch. I thought it would be great to have a website that not only listed the distance of each route but also the elevation, so you could choose if you wanted your run that day to be hilly and challenging or easy and flat.
Each route listed on WalkRun Westshore is designed to be accessed quickly and easily. Rather than reading long descriptions about the natural history of each trail, you will find just the basics. Each listing will include a link to a photo gallery if you want to see some of the highlights of each trail. All photos are taken by me and are subject to copyright. If you would like to find out more information about a trail, a website link will be provided where applicable.
The majority of the routes were mapped by using these two handy tools: WalkJogRun.net and Run Keeper Lite for iPhone. Keep in mind the routes and elevation mapped using these tools are approximate and official maps I found from park websites (such as CRD Parks and Provincial Parks) were used when available.
The routes listed on WalkRun Westshore are a work in progress. There are at least a dozen or more I haven’t gotten to yet, including more in Goldstream Park, Millstream Creek and the Royal Bay area. New routes will be added all the time, and if you have any you would like to suggest for the site, please fill out the form on the Contact page.
Enjoy and happy running!
