February 25, 2006: International Perspectives on Indigenous Early Childhood Care and Development PDF Print E-mail

On February 26, 2006, the Unit and REACH hosted the conference, International Perspectives on Indigenous Early Childhood Care and Development at the University of Victoria. Conference attendees had the opportunity to gain an understanding of the unique issues concerning Indigenous Early Childhood Care and Development from an international perspective.

Recognized scholars from New Zealand, Australia, Continental USA, Hawaii and Canada addressed ways their particular communities and countries are advancing the development of context appropriate approaches to achieving high-quality care for Indigenous children.

The conference led to the publication of a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Native Education, featuring articles by conference speakers, including Elizabeth Pakai, Lesley Rameka, Karen Martin, Marcelle Townsend-Cross, Claude Endfield, Mike Niles, Noelani Iokepa-Guerrero, Margo Greenwood, Nadine Rousselot, and Ceal Tournier (see publications page for more details).
