On February 26, 2006, the Unit and REACH hosted the conference, International Perspectives on Indigenous Early Childhood Care and Development at the University of Victoria. Conference attendees had the opportunity to gain an understanding of the unique issues concerning Indigenous Early Childhood Care and Development from an international perspective.

The conference led to the publication of a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Native Education, featuring articles by conference speakers, including Elizabeth Pakai, Lesley Rameka, Karen Martin, Marcelle Townsend-Cross, Claude Endfield, Mike Niles, Noelani Iokepa-Guerrero, Margo Greenwood, Nadine Rousselot, and Ceal Tournier (see publications page for more details).
