
Resides in the brand new Social Sciences and Math (SSM) Building on the UVic Campus. In the lab are individual dedicated work stations, unassigned work areas as well as an area for light wet lab work (sample preparation etc.). Elsewhere in the SSM we have access to shared wet / dirty space that is used for larger scale sample processing etc.

18 foot, open deck, center consol work boat designed and built by Lifetimer Boats in Duncan, BC. She is powered by twin 50hp Yamaha 4-stroke engines. Sloop Jo has been the backbone of our marine research program for the past 6 years. Sloop Jo was purchased with support from the NSERC-SSHRC MCRI initiative “Coasts Under Stress” project.

30 foot live-aboard marine lab. She has bunk space for five, galley, head, propane heater and refrigerator. She is wired for both 12v DC and 120v AC (30amp) with an inverter. The navigation package is the Raymarine C-120 package (integrated 12” colour GPS plotter, sounder and 4Kw radar). She is powered by twin Yamaha 225hp 4-stroke outboards. She was launched in January 2008 and will be tasked with remote coastal marine research expeditions of up to 10 days. The Jolly-Seber was purchased with support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI).

Known as “the newt”, the lab truck is a 1992 Chevy extended cab Z71 (4x4). It is used primarily for transport of research crews and towing the Sloop Jo and the trailer to and from research locales. Though old, it continues to be a solid and dependable field vehicle.
