$15 per person

This summer we have four volunteers serving in Rwanda. Irene Gonzalez from Germany, Anisa Hainsworth-Fedaei from UK, Steve Nagy adn Grayson Cockett both from Canada.

They are training people in english, computer skills, first aid, swiming, community development, moral education, etc...

The people of Rwanda are very happy with the warm friendly manner that they have to make learning fun.

We have managed to get make shift accomodations ready for these volunteers as we continue to struggle with finding the means to do the finishing work on the rooms in the new dormitory building.

Thank you for your continued interest and support.

Faustin (our driver and all round Mr. fix it) married Margueritte (one of the nurses) on Valentines Day. They are now living on site in a house that still needs some ceilings and other finishing work.

Ceilings have recently been completed in the dispensary.

Walls and roof of first dormitory are up. Fund raising ongoing for doors, windows, flooring, etc... to finish the building so it can welcome students soon.

Arizona Rotary Clubs are fundraising for furniture and equipment for the dormitory. They cannot help with construction so we need your help for finishing the ten rooms.

Visit to Rwanda

In February 2008, 25 more desks were delivered to the Nyanza government elementary school in Gatenga along with hundreds of books.  For more details and new photos visit:  www.pontdunite.org

A matching grant is being pursued through Rotary Clubs in Rwanda and Arizona to provide the dispensary with a back up generator, more beds and improved equipment.  Every dollar raised is matched dollar for dollar by Rotary International.  For further information or to participate in this opportunity to double your donation, please contact Katherine Christensen at kc123@mindspring.com

The dispensary continues to deliver medical services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. More than three thousand patients have been treated since the dispensary opened. Forty babies were delivered in 2006 - 2007 and over eight hundred children immunized.

A fundraising effort is being led by Katherine through Rotary Clubs in Rwanda, Arizonia and Rotary International to provide the dispensary with a back up generator, more beds and improved equipment.

New Girls Dormitory

Roof almost complete

The roof is being put onto the girls dormitory. God willing the fundraising will allow for the second dormitory and a more solid security enclosure to be built in the near future. Our sincere thanks go out to all of those who have assisted the community of Gatenga to develop and improve their lives.

Contributions can be made through a secure link on our website www.andersonassociation.com

Seasons Greetings

It has been a wonderful year of progress for the residents of Gatenga, Rwanda with it being the first full year of operations of the Joan Anderson Memorial Dispensary which now provides 24 hour service 7 days a week.

Electricity was connected to the main dispensary building.

Immunisation campaigns have been started for children and programs of public education on health and sanitation have been offered. Labratory tests are available on site now.

The government run elementary school down the road from the dispensary has started to receive more desks thanks to many caring children and their families in Canada and the USA.  The hundreds of wonderful letters from other children has brightened the lives of these students who know that they have friends overseas who care about them.

The first dormitory building is nearing completion as the campus expands in preparation for more trainees and volunteers in the future.

The people of Gatenga send you their heartfelt thanks for helping them to improve their lives and progress in the development of their community.

Warmest greetings

April 26th 2007 - The Lights are ON!

It is like a miracle to have electric lights in the dispensary for the first time two days ago,  so they can clearly see while treating patients during the hours of darkness. The whole mountain is talking with excitement about this new development that really does bring improvements to the peoples lives. With the contribution of  a fridge and back up generator just confirmed there will finally be capacity for the storage of vaccinations and sensitive medications that has not been possible without refrigeration. Now there is the possibility of using electrical medical equipment once it is shipped to Rwanda from Arizona where it has been generously donated. Still trying to finish the fundraising to cover the freight costs. Thank you very much from the community of Gatenga, Rwanda in the heart of Africa.

March 7th 2007 - Electricity On the Way!

We are very happy to inform you of significant progress made in Rwanda due to the generous support of many people: The installation of electricity for the Joan Anderson Memorial Dispensary has been contracted with Electrogaz and is fully paid for. We are just waiting for some technical parts to be available in the stocks of the national power company who will hook us up. Construction has started on two dormitories to provide housing for trainees and volunteers near the clinic. This development has been made possible in part by a generous donation in memory of Mr. A. Karimian Ardestani. A new project is being launched to bring encouragement and unity by writing letters to school children and womens groups in Rwanda. This project is called "Pont d'Unite" which is french for "Unity Bridge". Visit the new website at: www.pontdunite.org

Thank you very much to all of those who have supported the community development efforts of the Anderson Association (not for profit) in Rwanda.
